As I set out to list the presidents with some commentary, I was all too aware that this had been done too many times to count.  So, I wanted to be a little bit different, looking for things others had not focused upon. How old were these men when they entered the most powerful office in the world?  How long did they live after leaving?  What form did death take? Are there patterns to any of this?  Summaries are found at the end.

* The asterisk simply represents normal Inaugural Day for entering and leaving office.  This would be the 4th of March until the end of Harry S. Truman’s 2nd term; exceptions are noted. From Eisenhower to the present that date has been the 20th of January.

 James Madison, entered office at the age of 58 and served 2   terms: 1809-1817.  Demo-Rep.  He lived from 16 March 1751 till 28 June 1836 Cause of death not yet found.
        Madison was fond of being told how much he looked like George Washington,  (maybe that explains the “stern” look in this painting) So much so that he even dressed like the iconic hero—long after silk stockings and pigtails had gone out of fashion.
