After reading the Times Gazette news article about the school report card; it seems that the grades are getting progressively worse since the new ( SSA) dress code was enforced. With overwhelming majority of the parents, school faculty against the dress code. The Bedford County School Board passed it anyways, I guess their constituency has no bearing on their decision making.
After reading some of the comments on the T-G.com website, it has become apparent that the Magnet School doesn't have the cream of the crop of the counties elementary school students. Why is that? I thought it was based on test scores? If so, why are they so low?
Several other comments were about the dress code and how it could be affecting the amount of time the faculty can actually teach the students. One commenter 'writeattitude' brazenly told the other commenters to let it die... my reply to this individual is this:
Please, this isn't about the dress code, it is about ENFORCING it as THE number one priority instead of teaching and instilling values of respect. My children have ZERO problems showing respect for others and they don't need to dress using tucked in polo shirts to do so.
I read the headlines, You are correct, they didn't follow the laws, rules, regulations, but HOT damn they still wore their proper dress code attire to commit the crime! What point were you trying to make? I don't have a problem with dress codes as well, but why no embellishments? or t-shirts? Why couldn't they just enforce the dress code they had before?
We got over the dress code, but we were promised our kids would be in better shape in the educational sense... Sorry but we are in our 2nd year of this dress code and it seems to be going downhill.
My question is this, If the schools cannot teach my kids and it seems the parents fault if the school's system is failing, then why are we sending our kids to school? When so many parents stood against something like the dress code and board members decided our voices didn't matter, what do you feel would better serve us?
In conclusion, I hope that Dixie Parker recovers quickly and completely. I wish you all of the best. Secondly, Why was nothing even mentioned about the passing of Jerry Naron who was a school board member? Doesn't that strike you as odd that is has been almost 2 months since his death and NOTHING has been mentioned.
